Dimora delle Balze

Peppenino

The spacious Peppenino room is set over two floors in the domestic part of the compound, which once housed the farmers and their families that worked the land for the noble Barone family. In addition to their own sleeping quarters, this is where they would have done laundry, mended equipment and tended to animals. The 45sqm suite can host up to four guests: three on the ground floor, which features a queen size bed and a dormeuse, and a fourth on the second level, which features a comfortable French bed. The whitewashed original architecture is boldly contrasted by a selection of stylish contemporary furniture, including a stunning chandelier by the designer Draga Obradovich and a beautifully crafted wooden wardrobe by Katrine Ahrens. The Peppenino also boasts a furnished terraced, which looks over the ancient architecture of the Dimora’s main court.

The Peppenino room is named after one of the main characters in the Opera dei Pupi, a type of puppet theatre that originated in Sicily in the 1700s. Today this art is considered an intangible heritage of humanity and has been listed by UNESCO as an oral and immaterial heritage of humanity since 2008
